Tender strips of sirloin are quickly cooked with peppers, tomato, and garam masala, then served with basmati rice. Slice the beef thinly across the grain for a tender bite.

  • Beef sirloin steak, thinly sliced across the grain1.5 lb
  • Basmati rice1.5 cups
  • Bell pepper, thinly sliced2 medium
  • Onion, thinly sliced1 medium
  • Garlic, minced3 cloves
  • Canned diced tomato0.5 14.5 oz can
  • Garam masala2 tsp
  • Vegetable oil1.5 tbsp

    Slice the beef thinly across the grain, slice the peppers and onion, mince the garlic, and set out the rice, tomatoes, spices, and oil.

    Cook the rice

    Rinse the rice and combine it with 450 ml water in a medium saucepan; bring to a boil over high heat, cover, and simmer over low heat.

    Soften the vegetables

    Heat half the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat; stir-fry the bell pepper and onion, turning often, until just softened, then transfer to a plate.

    Heat the remaining oil in the skillet over high heat; add the beef in a single layer and turn once, then stir in the garlic and garam masala.
