Ingredients

  • Beef sirloin steak, cut into thin strips1.33 lb
  • Cremini mushroom, sliced10.5 oz
  • Onion, thinly sliced1 medium
  • Provolone cheese4 slices
  • Hamburger bun4 bun
  • Butter2 tbsp
  • Worcestershire sauce1 tbsp
  • Olive oil1 tbsp

Method

  1. 1

    Prep the ingredients

Cut the beef sirloin steak into thin strips, slice the cremini mushroom, and thinly slice the onion; set out the cheese, buns, and remaining ingredients.

  2. 2

    Brown the vegetables

Melt half the butter with the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat; add the cremini mushroom and onion, stirring now and then.

    10 min

Tip: Let the mushrooms sit undisturbed for a minute at a time to encourage browning.

  3. 3

    Sear the steak

Move the vegetables to the skillet edge; add the beef sirloin steak, worcestershire sauce, 1/2 tsp salt, and a few grinds of black pepper, turning the strips as they brown.

    6 min

Tip: Cook in batches if the skillet is crowded so the steak sears instead of steams.

  4. 4

    Toast and melt

Set the hamburger bun halves cut-side down over medium heat in the skillet; pile steak and vegetables onto the bottoms, cover with provolone cheese, and cover.

    4 min
  5. 5

    Taste and serve

Taste the filling and adjust with up to 1/4 tsp salt and a few grinds of black pepper; close the sandwiches with the bun tops and serve hot.
