Ingrédients

  • Ground pork, broken into small pieces1 lb
  • Jasmine rice1.5 cups
  • Onion, thinly sliced1 medium
  • Bell pepper, thinly sliced1 medium
  • Garlic, minced4 cloves
  • Basil, leaves torn1 cup
  • Fish sauce2 tbsp
  • Soy sauce1 tbsp
  • Lime, cut into wedges1 medium
  • Canola oil1 tbsp

Préparation

  1. 1

    Prep the ingredients

On a cutting board, thinly slice the onion and bell pepper, mince the garlic, tear the basil leaves, and cut the lime into wedges; keep the prepared items separate.

  2. 2

    Cook the rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the jasmine rice with 600 ml water and bring to a boil over high heat; cover, reduce to low, and cook without stirring.

    16 min

Astuce: Keep the lid on while the rice cooks so the steam stays in the pan.

  3. 3

    Brown the pork

Heat the canola oil in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground pork and garlic; break up the pork and stir often, then season with 1/2 tsp salt and a few grinds of black pepper.

    8 min

Astuce: Break the pork into small pieces as it cooks for a more even texture.

  4. 4

    Soften the vegetables

Add the onion and bell pepper to the skillet over medium heat; stir and scrape the browned bits until the vegetables soften but still hold their shape.

    6 min
  5. 5

    Season and serve

Stir the fish sauce and soy sauce into the skillet over low heat, then fold in the basil. Taste and adjust salt and black pepper; serve over the rice with lime wedges.

    3 min

Astuce: Add lime at the table so each person can choose how bright to make the bowl.
